Short Films

Short Films has been traditionally known for being social documents for the time that it has been created. Short films have a greater creative freedom then mainstream films as they don’t have the financial support. The short film industry can explore different topics that most feature films try and avoid or don’t go into detail about as this can be difficult for audiences to handle. Short Films are willing to try things differently and have a off beat nature to their filming techniques in terms of how it is filmed and the way that the characters are developed. The main problem that short films has is the fact that it is hard to develop the characters to a level where the audience care or hate them in the time that they are on screen.

The Length of a short film isn’t something that has been specified but most believe that a short film is within 45 minutes, this was stated by the Internet Movie Database.

The distribution of short films is something that makes it for a short film to be profitable as there is limited places a director can go for people to see their work. The places that people can see short films are in Film festivals. This are the best places to go show your work as the audience is there to see this short films. Other methods of distribution is on the internet, the UK Film Council have their own website to show short films on them and the BBC have their own website to watch short films, this is probably the most effective and cheapest method for directors. One example of mainstream short films are the Pixar short films that are shown at the being of their feature films this are a clear example of short films targeted at a wider audience.
