Existing Films 2

This film was called Salaryman 6. It is a drama about a man who loses his memory everyday. The man called Shiode and he goes through each day not remembering the previous day. He then decides to modify his camera to take pictures of what he does. After four days he processes the films and finds out he goes through the same process each day and realizes he has no past, present or future. One day at work an accident happened at work. One of his colleagues trips over and the modified camera captures some of the actions. Shiode then eventually gets hit on the head with a book.

The film is called Salaryman as it refers to someone whose income salary based and are "whiter-collar" workers. This phrase is mostly used by Japanese corporations. This title has a clear relevance to the film as the main character works for a Japanese corporation and mise en scene shows that he is a "white-collar" worker. The film is set in Japan in the city of Tokyo. The scenes are mostly shot in an office and his apartment. This shows a stereotypical "Salaryman" in Japan.

The character Shiode is narrating during the film. He describes his life as being boring and repetitive. He has somehow lost his memory which makes it worse as he could "have raided a bank" or "killed someone". He looks and sounds depressed however he shows he is determined to piece his life together.

The scenery is very dull and plain. This can show how boring Shiodes life is. The colours used in the film make the film look repetitive as the colours are just mostly white and grey. This makes the film look more depressing for Shiote as there is no colour in his life.

The clothing the main character wears is a typical office workers attire. He wears a suit. This shows he is a white collar worker.

Seiya Sakamoto 13.3
